Cauliflower Growing Guide
Sow (when, temp, soil, location)
- xx
- rich, well prepared soil (lots of well rotted compost dug in)
- sow 5mm in seed box/punnet or
directly in clumps in the ground – later thin to 1 seedling per clump - full sun
Harvest/Germination
- Germinate: 7-12 days
- Harvest: 14-22 weeks (when head fully developed but before curd becomes loose)
Care/Watering
- transplant seedlings to growing position at 2-4 leaf stage.
- space: 45-60cm (18-24inch) apart
- keep well watered
- fertilise regularly (high nitrogen). When heads form, use liquid fertiliser

- frost tolerant – yes
- “Use fine mesh or exclusion netting over the warmer months to prevent butterflies laying eggs on the underside of leaves – caterpillars can destroy these plants. Protect against birds which can damage the young seedlings and overwintering crops.
